Project Overview
My Scotland: equipping young people for the digital media economy
The My Scotland programme was designed to address a gap that young people (16-24) in Scotland often lacked access to high-quality, vocational digital media training that combined practical content creation with real-world industry exposure. It offered young people training in digital media (such as video production, website content, social media content, digital storytelling) alongside mentoring, industry links, and a pathway into employment, further training or volunteering. The approach was hands-on, project-based, and grounded in Scotland’s creative-digital economy.
Implementation
Recruitment targeted 16-24 year-olds, especially those in transition (school-to-work or disengaged).Sessions included pre-production research, photo and film production, post-production workflows; story development; digital platforms; professional practice.Real-world briefs were used (e.g., local tourism attractions, heritage media content) to connect training to employability.Partnerships with local tourism industry and employers gave participants exposure and networking opportunities.Support services (mentoring, career guidance) ensured participants could progress beyond the programme.
